Young Kiwis in AI is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Information we collect
- Name and email address when you submit the Join form.
- Your Discord username, Discord account ID and the email address on your Discord account, if you choose to verify your Discord account with us. Discord asks for your approval first and only shares those three things - we never see your password and cannot post on your behalf.
- Information you share about your interests when you apply to join the community.
- Basic website usage data, such as page views, to improve the site.
How we use your information
- To review membership requests and respond to enquiries.
- To confirm you are a real person before granting access to our Discord server, and to invite you to meetups in your city.
- To communicate about community updates, events, and resources.
- To improve our website and services.
Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with trusted service providers who help us operate the community, or where required by New Zealand law. We will only share what is necessary and will take reasonable steps to ensure providers protect your data.
Storage and security
We store information securely and take reasonable safeguards to protect it from loss, unauthorised access, or misuse. We keep your information only as long as needed for the purposes described here.
If a serious privacy breach occurs, we will notify affected people and the Privacy Commissioner where required under the Privacy Act 2020.
